Francisco holds a BEngSc. (Hons.) in Bioprocess Engineering and Biotechnology (highest GPA of the year award) from the Federal University of Paraná (Brazil) and a Summa Cum Laude (highest distinction award) Ph.D. for the mathematical modelling of continuous chromatographic processes from the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany). He was awarded the competitive FAPESP postdoctoral fellowship to apply Quality by Design principles in the process development of a biological chemotherapeutical product at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) in cooperation with University College Cork (Ireland) and Loughborough University (UK).
His main research interests are the application of Bayesian statistics and mechanistic modelling in the optimization and risk analysis of biopharmaceutical upstream and downstream processes.
