The Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Technology Centre (PMTC) at the Bernal Institute welcomes Dr Marcus O’Mahony to their team as a Senior Research Fellow. Marcus has recently returned to Ireland after nearly 7 years living in the United States and working in Pharmaceutical R&D at both Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Vertex Pharmaceuticals. His experience at MIT includes the development of novel technologies to engineer the particle size of drugs as well as the design and development of an innovative miniaturized, automated and continuous pharmaceutical drug-producing unit to produce drugs on demand. At Vertex Pharmaceuticals, he was a Subject matter expert (SME) in the design, implementation and validation of continuous processing formulation methodologies for oral solid dosage forms with a focus on continuous feeding / blending and tablet compression. He received his PhD in Chemistry from UL working with the Synthesis and Solid State Pharmaceutical Centre before moving to the US.
Outside of his research work and solving problems in pharma manufacturing, Marcus is looking forward to playing some better priced golf (compared to the US) and having his daughter grow up with an Irish accent!
